I am going to Niagara Falls (Ontario) and have made my list of hotels. There will be 5 of us going up for 2 nights and we were going to split the cost of the room between us so it will be around $50-$70 a person. (For both nights not each night) I know for hotels that have complimentary breakfast they usually give you a ticket for each person so i know i wouldn’t be able to do that for a hotel that has complimentary breakfast, but I was wondering for a hotel where we are strictly just sleeping there…do you think I could just book the room for 2 people and then slide the other 3 in free of charge, Instead of the $20-$50 charge a night for an extra adult???? Would we get caught? Is this considered stealing? It would be way cheaper if we just say there will be 2 of us? Why the extra charges?
Thanks guys!!! Ya…(to the guy about the college trip)…that’s what we’re doing to…my birthday will be the night we get there and I’ll be 19!!!! Legal drinking age in Ontario!!!!! We’re all excited! Thanks for the input again…and to everyone giving me "moral" advice…i was just seeing if anyone had first had experience on getting caught…and so far no one has so guess what…I’M BOOKING FOR 2!!!! It’s not like any of you know which hotel i’m staying at…haha thanks again!
Ha ha my family use to do that all the time and what we did was we would go up to the room at seperate times ecspeacially when we checked in. But the number one thing Hotel Manager’s hate is when there are more people in a room than you paid for, so be sneaky. And in a way it is stealing but Hotels are ripping people off by charging extra so scwew them!

Yes, and when you get caught, you could be arrested for fraud.

Thank You for letting us know. I work for the hotel… Now I will be in the look out…
LOL
JK… I think you should keep the location a secret next time.

In most cases its a regulation. you have a much better change of being challenged in an indoor setting then you do at an outdoor motel. best of luck.

Yes, it is stealing. Yes, you an get caught. The reason for the charge is that each person causes more consumption of water and electricity, which cuts into the profit of the business owner.

You can get caught, but if it’s for two nights, I don’t think no one will try to investigate. I’m certain you can get away with it. I’ve done it millions of times, even with family and never got caught.

I have done that several times and have never been caught…

That’s so funny you say that!
Me and my buddies did it in college when we went to Niagra Falls for two days then the Buffalo Bills game on Sunday…We had six and only paid for one room….
As long as you aren’t obnoxious and out of hand you will be fine…

depends on if its an exterior hotel, you could sneak someone in that way but Id say even if you had to go inside (interior) they will have no way of knows who sleeps there. As far as the breakfast in concerned, go down to the breakfast area and load up on food and bring in back to the room. YES its kinda wrong but trust me NO one will ever know if you act casual about it and don’t make a lot of noise so you don’t get the front desk called on you.

nobody can stop you from having visitors…
you are staying in a town that you know people (tell them that) they come by and visit you.. just make sure you don’t get housekeeping

i would think it fraud. Just give up the extra dollars

Why would you worry about getting caught? It’s not an ethical thing to do. Doing the right thing is something that should be part of your character from the beginning, but you are intent on asking us how to steal. The deal is this, if you cannot afford to pay for the room, you shouldn’t be planning that kind of vacation.

We do this all the time. We just took a trip to vegas and there were 6 of us in a 2 person room. I guess it depends on the hotel and how far away they put you from the check in place. If you are a good distance away then I am sure you wont have any problem.
You can always just try it. If they happen to catch you and say something….just tell them that when you booked the room, there were only 2 of you coming and then the other people ended up coming last minute. The worst they can do is charge you for the extra people. If they dont, then score!

Why not call them up and ask them how many they will allow in a room if you get rollaway beds too or cots. They may allow 4 of you, and the charge would still be less and then you can sneak in the last one. If they see 4 or so people coming and going that will look less obviously then if you just admit to the 2 of you. Or maybe even (upon check in) request a room towards the back or near the parking lot so you can get to the car easily. Those rooms are usually less noticed.

Well, technically it’s stealing, but I’d do it anyway. You might get caught and asked to pay extra, but almost definitely not. Just be sure not to let the staff see everyone together at any point, and if someone asks just say they’ll be going home later.
Also, chain hotels are a better choice if you’re going to do this. People usually have less of a committment to faceless corporations, so they’ll be less likely to harrass you if they do notice something fishy going on.

We’ve been doing that for years, I have never been checked or doubted. Do it.

I know a lot of people who did that. I don’t see it as stealing – since the costs of 3 extra people in the room for the hotel are so ridicuolously low (OK, so you’re gonna use twice as much toilet paper and water…). What exactly is it that you’re stealing here?
You probably can still get caught but I never heard of anybody getting caught, unless you start to all hang out in the lobby and disturb the guests.
Enjoy the Falls – they are truly awesome. Look at them from both sides. Wear something water-resistant with a hood.

Extra people cost the hotel extra – extra maid service, extra hot water and other utilities and the like. There are certainly less expensive hotels that charge less for extra adults – and ones that charge the same for 2-4 people, then extra only for the fifth.
"Sneaking" someone in to stay free of charge is morally a form of stealing – though not one that is ever legally prosecuted, and rather gray. You might get caught, and if so put out of the hotel.
I suggest that you consider finging a cheaper hotel or motel. According to you you are thinking of spending $250 for the hotel, or about $125 a night – look further from the tourist center, and you might be able to find cheapo motels that will cost less.

Of course it is stealing! You will use water, electricity, towels and other hotel amenities. That’s why the extra charges. They could call the police if you are caught, or kick you out in the middle of the night, or just charge you for the extra people(if you are lucky).
Remember you are out of the country!!!!!! What are Canada’s rules for theft ?!?

I would just book it for 2 ppl and get 2 full bed in the room. when you check in don’t bring the posse with you. just have the 2 of you at the front desk and get only 2 keys. put two ppl bags in the room and at later times move more bags up to your room. Later at night you can bring the rest in with you and go straight to your room. they won’t think of anything is up or shady if you don’t get all loud at night to cause they to knock on your door. just be kool and relax andenjoy the falls.

Yeah. Housekeeping will rat you out!

Hallways often have security cameras so you would probably get caught. Then they would either charge it when you leave so you are not prepared or kick you out. Most likely just charge it to your card.
Be honest and pay for it.

You should check the rate rules. It is rare indeed for North American hotels to be priced per person. They are priced per room, with a maximum occupancy.
If there is an additional charge it is to provide a cot bed for additional people, and additional linen of course. If four of you are willing to share the usual two queen beds then you only need one cot bed.
The occupancy limit is often set by fire and other safety regulations, so it is a very bad idea to break it. For one thing, it would render any insurance you are carrying invalid and may leave you with a liability.
For instance, I did a quick check on Expedia and got NO difference in price at all between requesting one room for 1, 2, 3 or 4 people.
I have NEVER quoted the number of people in a booking that was below the occupancy limit because it has never been asked for.
