This is, in a somewhat truncated version, the entire 1997 Rose Bowl winning drive that followed the Jake Plummer touchdown in the fourth quarter. I did have to edit for extraneous content to bring the file under 10 minutes.
To recap:
- Jake Plummer scores on a play where, if you were a Buckeye fan at the time, you probably were ready to hang yourself. Hence why I included that Vermeil line about Cooper probably wanting to die.
- Germaine incomplete pass, 1 minute 29 seconds left. 2nd down.
- Germaine incomplete pass to the same target, clear drop. 1 minute 23 seconds left. 3rd down.
- Germaine pass to Dimitrious Stanley. First down. In play. 1 minute 16 seconds left.
- Germaine pass incomplete to Stanley. 1 minute 9 seconds left. (Omitted due to time constraints: Ineligible man downfield penalty on this play against the Buckeyes. Sun Devils take the loss of down.)
- Germaine incomplete pass to Stanley. 1 minute 4 seconds left. 3rd down and 10.
- Germaine pass to Stanley at the 42 yard line of the Sun Devils. 54 seconds left. 1st down and 10.
- Germaine pass to Stanley at the 28 yard line of the Sun Devils. 46 seconds left, clock stopped on the out of bounds play. 1st down and 10.
- (Omitted due to time constraints: False start on the next play, via a false snap by Germaine that caused the tight end to flinch. Clock malfunction ensues. 1st down and 15.)
After the omitted false start penalty, the Sun Devils secondary absolutely falls apart. Just watch. No further edits from this point on.
Oh and watch Jake Plummer’s growing descent into despair.
To this day, David Boston’s little strut in the end zone is my favorite end zone dance.

Hionestly if i had …
Hionestly if i had to pick prob OSU, or Oregon, Stanford scares me whoevers has to play them in a bowl will have a tough time. Oregon is a very good football team but im not sold on the QB as a passer. so anybody but stanford.

One of the biggest …
One of the biggest dog crap arguments Big Ten fans make is this whole travel to bowl games/ play games in cold weather crap. These arn’t high school kids, they are used to flying on a plane for a game. And Big Ten teams dont even play in cold weather. Ohio State played Iowa last week and it was 55 degrees.
And I’m a Big Ten/ Buckeye honk, fyi.
Looks like u got …
Looks like u got your wish! Now the only question is who your opponent will be. Looks to be Oregon, though Stanford and Oregon State have smaller chances.
Another reason no …
Another reason no bowls are going to come to those locations, aside from the cold climate, is that we already have about as many bowls as you can possibly have, the only way to have more is to create bowls for teams that 5 or 6 games. So for those locations to get bowls, some bowls where they are being played now will have to be closed down. No way is the orange bowl going from Miami to NYC, the rose from Pasadena to philly, or the gator from Jacksonville to Chicago. Just simply aint happenin.
Actually the pac10 …
Actually the pac10 has not done well against Wisky, losing 3 rose bowls against them from 1994-2000. The first 2 were by UCLA (so much for that home field advantage theory eh?) and then the most recent one came following maybe the weakest season ever for the pac10, 1999, when Wisky beat Stanford 17-9.
In 2k, UW beat Purdue and Drew Brees by 10. Oregon beat Texas in the holiday bowl, and Oregon state beat ND in the fiesta. OSU and UW both finished 11-1.
2000 must have been …
2000 must have been the year the Big 10 was your in the Rose Bowl( Wisconsin).
I wouldnt bet that if the BCS really wants to even this out, they wouldnt consider a bowl in the north. Actually NYC is one of the most expensive cities in the world but to visit and not live…..they would come.
Tell me the last …
Tell me the last time the awesome big10 beat the pac10 in the rose bowl……it’s been a long long time.
Actually this is …
Actually this is the strongest the pac10 has been in a decade, when Oregon, UW, and Oregon state all won 10 or more in 2000. A near loss by Oregon is not a loss by Oregon. No, that would be like Ohio State losing at Purdue.
Well yes I am saying that, that is why no bowls ever have been played there nor ever will. NYC? One of the most expensive cities in the nation…I doubt that one especially.
Go read my rebuttal …
Go read my rebuttal again…I think I did. Hey, we all admit here the league is down and looks like the Pac 10 is down too since Purdue almost beat Oregon at their place this year.
Are you saying people wouldnt want to come to Chicago or New York , Philadelphia or even DC in winter during the holidays? They build it they will come.
You didnt address …
You didnt address why Oregon went into Michigan in 2007 and punked the wolves 39-7 nor why did what is turning out to be a very weak SC team go into Columbus and punched the big10 champs.
It is just a fact of life that bowls, college or super, are almost always going to be played in the south – either SW, TX, or the SE. Even though you can put a dome over a northern stadium, it doesnt change the fact that the city it is being played in is very very cold, not good for tourism.
You cant compare a …
You cant compare a 4-5 hour bus ride to flying 2500 miles a week or two before the game. I had this same rebuttal for someone else and he understood. You are talking about midwestern boys who have probably never been to west coast and only dream about it. Woody one year had them stay in a convent to avoid distractions which backfired on him. Home field in a bowl is ALOT different than a regular season game. Oh the Big 10 OWNED the Pac 8 before 70 and again in the 90s so yes lately they have
Spare me the home …
Spare me the home field advantage stuff. Didnt you see Oregon go into Michigan 2 years ago and leave with a 39-7 win, a michigan team that would go on to beat defending champ florida in a bowl? Did you not see USC just 2 months ago walk into the Shoe with a freshman qb with all of one game under his belt lead SC to a victory there too? You wont have that home field advantage excuse this year because the pac10 will be represented by either Oregon or Stanford.
Thats because of …
Thats because of the BCS. The Pac Ten has either played the runner-up or another team has played in place of the Big Ten champion. Must be tough playing in your home field for the Rose Bowl every year. How do you do it getting up in your own bed in the morning and going out and playing the biggest game of your life in front of your home crowd?

Only a base pro …
Only a base pro formation for OSU. Arizona state should have covered Stanley and Boston like blankets what the heck!!!
The MVP of this …
The MVP of this game wasnt Joe Germaine or David Boston, it was ASU’s defensive coordinator, Phil Snow, who decided to play prevent even after the crappy kickoff gave the bucks the ball at the 35 yard line.
Boston was so wide open my grandmother could have caught that pass and crawled into the endzone. A colossal choke by ASU.
How many games have we seen the prevent D snatch defeat from the jaws of victory?
RIP to coach Snyder, who passed on 4/13/09.
Even before this …
Even before this game, Arizona State was NOT a consistent national power. It is hard to figure out why because they had some pretty solid teams in the Frank Kush years before entering the pac10 and won alot of Fiesta bowls (granted, they were home games). They are a huge school with a rich recruiting base…hard to figure out why they are so consistently mediocre….they are kinda like Purdue or Illinois of the big10…..a good year here and there but mostly very very mediocre.
